molymoo Posted April 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2016 We are booked on the Viking Homelands cruise this July and as the time grows closer we are fine-tuning our plans. We noticed that most (if not all) of the countries visited on this itinerary have their own currency. While we will plan to use our credit card for some purchases along the way we like to have at least some of the local currency for smaller purchases (eg: coffee shops, public rest rooms, tips for the local guides, etc.). Will there be places to get local currency in the various ports ... specifically ATM's? We had the same issue on an Eastern Europe river cruise and there were ATM's readily available at just about every port ... we also found that many places were willing to take dollars or euros as well ... especially in the areas with heavy tourist traffic. We are hoping that this will be the case with the ocean cruise as well. Just want to be prepared with a plan! :)
bobinnv Posted April 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Took this cruise last year - there were ATMs everywhere. And sometimes, for instance in Gdansk, we found cafes, at least in the touristy areas, would take euros.
dln929 Posted April 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2016 ATMs are easily found. I never found any European ports where they readily accepted US dollars though.
Rare Vineyard View Posted April 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 26, 2016 Biking Homelands was one of our itineraries last year on the Star. Nothing to worry about! ATM's are in all the ports and easy access to multiple choices. Enjoy. It is a great trip!
