Harmony of the seas

Recommended Posts

I'm on that roll call too. I thought that was how roll calls were - it's our first cruise. Very excited for the cruise for our honeymoon. What else is usually discussed on the roll call? I suppose it's hard to talk about the ship when no one has sailed on it yet

Congrats on the honeymoon! A lot of people use the roll calls to form small groups to organize private tours in the various ports of call. Others organize a so-called 'cabin crawl' to be able to take a look at different types of staterooms. I guess this makes especially sense on a brand new ship.

Thanks for the clarification. I have only heard of that a few times.

You're welcome. Actually, I never heard of this practice at all - not with RCI at least; it is more common with some other cruise lines. But I only just found out myself when I began looking for those missing roll calls  I do wonder if this has been RCI's plan all along, or that those sailings out of Civitavecchia were added later on possibly because of the sellings falling behind in the Med this year.

Interporting, as it's known, is used more in Europe, especially the Med.

Costa & MSC do 7 day cruises with embarkation in EVERY port. Most passengers get on at the main embarkation ports (Barcelona, Rome, Genoa etc) but a few get on at every port. Lots of Muster drills!

No, they are not; they are all on Harmony. The whole 2016 season Harmony is doing 7 night roundtrips out of Barcelona with a port call in Civitavecchia on day 5 and at the same time it's doing 7 night roundtrips out of Civitavecchia with a port call in Barcelona on day 4. They are taking in passengers in both cities.

This is correct, Harmony will have 'turnaround days' in Barcelona and Civitavecchia, starting on July. From either port, passengers will enjoy 7-night cruises.

Apparently so . This is what I've read elsewhere. Sounds like it could get confusing. And all the entertainment would get shelved on those days too.

My one experience of 'interporting' --embarking in Bari rather than the home port of Venice-- didn't make me a fan of this construction. It definitely impacts on entertainment and excursions.

Also, IIRC, the Roll Call was almost non existent. I suspect that may have been because there was a far lower percentage than usual of Cruise Critic members. I was told that there were very few top tier ie repeat C & A guests.

Don't you think the fact no one has sailed on it yet is pretty exciting ?

Just the fact that this is your first cruise and you're going on the biggest ship ever built is a fantastic thing in itself !!

Where are you travelling from ? Are you travelling alone or with friends ?

Have you booked a drink package, do you enjoy shows or the casino ???

That's what I talk about.......fun social things.

That roll call is full up with massive quotes about tours and people trying to fill up busses.

I wonder if it's because there have been very active threads here about the ships progress? People get what they need from that rather than roll calls?

We are on the 25th August out of Rome. I had started a roll call thread ages ago but it seems to have disappeared. Now on the 21st August thread which is the cruise that starts out of Barcelona and picks us up in Civi. In any event a very quiet roll call indeed.

We have sailed in the med cruises for years. We have been on Navigator Liberty and Allure, and all of these ships have had interporting.

It actually is quite nice not having everyone getting on and off at the same time.

It does not affect the entertainment at all.

In fact it makes everything much calmer

Thanks emerald444... we are on the July 31 out of Barcelona. I was wondering how it works on debarkation days. For example, when we stop in Civitavecchia... we are there for a port visit while others are disembarking after their full cruise... Who get off first? Or is it all at once? I imagine the trains and buses would be filled with people and luggage.

In my experience those in Rome leave very early so after that things settle down and it's easier for you who have excursions can get off without too much trouble.

Now that being said it is the port of Rome or Cittavecheccia so it's always crazy just be prepared and I'm sure you've heard this before

A sailing is a sailing, what is an 'overlap'?

There is a very good reason for that. 3000 people... this way they have "two shifts" It makes it a pain for me. We wanted to leave from Rome, but they didn't have any Studio cabins on that half...

Our sailing goes from Civitavecchia. Apparently the embarkation and disembarkation is a lot easier than at Barcelona, with there being a lot less people getting on/off. I believe that those going on excursions get off at one end of the ship while we will get off at the other end. This way we can have a few days in Rome before or after. A 1 day excursion isn't enough.

Does anyone have info about the zip line? Do you have to reserve a time? How long does the whole process take? Is there a waiver (I presume we just need our cabin card as ID?). And weight and height limit? I'm trying to convince my husband to go on but he's being a party pooper. I am definitely going on it. Though my street cred will drastically reduce with the helmet hair after!

Based on other Oasis class ships, you don't reserve a time, and you must sign a waiver. Here's the sign on Oasis:

Thanks Bob,

Hmm I'd best get on the zip line as early in the day as possible reading point 5 :D.

Claustrophobia? I thought ziplines were openair! Surely it should be agoraphobia and acrophobia

AGREE! I hate Civitavecchia, it's a mess. The train station is also a headache if you are moving around with luggage.

Maybe they're saving the excitement. Unlike me! I have to admit there's not much going on. I check other boards sailing in June and July and there's not much going on in them either. There was much more going on in the boards our previous cruise.

They don't appear to be saving their excitement on my roll call for 22 May 2016. I think everyone's really looking forward to being on the Harmony's official maiden voyage, the free gifts, and sailing on a ship that nobody's ever sailed on before. The zip line looks really cool too. Can't wait for that!! :)
