andio2of5 Posted May 25, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2016 We just booked our first American River cruise....the 23-day Mighty Mississippi Voyage next Aug, 2017. One of the inclusions is "Complimentary laundry services" yet in their Travel Guide they state "Due to the size of the vessel, dry cleaning, laundry and ironing services are not available onboard" So, how does this "Complimentary laundry services" work???
cruzjunky Posted May 25, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2016 There is a self-serve laundry onboard. Pretty sure is free but I am certain someone will correct me if I am wrong. If I remember right, there are 2 washers and 2 dryers.
cruzjunky Posted May 25, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Forgot to add. Our room steward supplied us with an iron and mini ironing board on our cruise at our request.

Later in the day it is returned to the boat. I used this service many times with the old Delta Queen Steamboat Co., with good results.

OH...that sounds like a much better option :D.....I'm on vacation, don't want to deal with washing machines!! BTW: Calliope....we were in your fantastic city for a few days last year....lovely place. Thanks for the info.
Jet2727 Posted June 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted June 17, 2016 My recollection from december 2015 is there is no off boat service offered New Orleans to Memphis. We used the free onboard machines. In fact we met all Australians and New Zealanders in the cruise in the laundry room!
Calliope Posted June 17, 2016 #8 Share Posted June 17, 2016 Did you ask at the Purser's Office about sending off laundry? In the old days both Vicksburg and Natchez had laundry/dry cleaners in town that the boats used.
Jet2727 Posted June 18, 2016 #9 Share Posted June 18, 2016 My recollection is the folder of information for the ship said there was no laundry service available- save for the self service!
cruiserhal Posted June 21, 2016 #10 Share Posted June 21, 2016 We just returned and the only thing I saw about laundry involved the self-service machines on deck 4. They are free and the soap is included. We never used them because I would not seriously suggest to my wife that she do laundry on any cruise. :) I wonder what would happen if I did??? No, don't think I will try to find out.
LDVinNC Posted June 21, 2016 #11 Share Posted June 21, 2016 We are booked in August in an AAA cabin which is considered a suite. This comes with "Commodore Services" which include laundry and pressing. Our reservations agent said it would be done on the boat, but it will be interesting to see how it works. I will report back. andio2of5 Posted June 23, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted June 23, 2016 I will report back. Yes, please do report back on how it works. Our cruise is 23 days long and while on vacation, I like to stay away from the washing machines, even if they are "free" :D
