We will be flying into FLL and cruising out of Miami, would we be better off staying over night in FLL and taking a shuttle the next morning to Miami, or taking a shuttle to a Miami hotel? Either way, we would like to be near shopping and restaurants. Thanks so much

Staying near FLL and taking a shuttle to POM the next morning is the easy solution - and likely cheaper! Hotels in the FLL area are generally cheaper than comparable properties in Miami or Miami Beach, and the later in the day your arrive the fewer shuttles (and the more expensive they become).

http://www.sunny.org has lots of FLL area tourist and hotel info.

Most of the popular shuttle companies list the hotels they will pick up at on their web pages - saves you a trip back to the FLL airport just to catch a shuttle. Uber for about $40 is another option to get to POM.

You can do it either way. The last couple times we've flown into FLL we shuttled direct to Miami. But like mentioned, you can look at the hotels mentioned in the threads and compare rates. Shuttle runs $15 -20 per person one way. We like QLS. But there are others too.

What kind of shopping do you want..for precruise odds and ends, wine or mall type stores?

Much cheaper to stay in and fly into FLL - embassy suites is great and so are other FLL airport area hotels. Then take Jiffy Jeff Transportation to the POM - they are great - very reliable with nice drivers and clean Mercedes vans for $15 per person - they can take you back to the airport after the cruise too. http://www.gojiffyjeff.com

If you have a good portion of day and evening left when you arrive, don't stay at a near airport hotel. You'll need cabs to enjoy the city. Since you haven't offered a date or budget, it is hard to recommend where to stay. There are great places to stay in Fort as well as downtown Miami. We can stay at Hampton Inn downtown Miami for less than Embassy Suites on 17th St. in Fort. It's not a given that hotels are higher in Miami downtown ( close to port) Just depends on your interests. If you'd like to walk a beach, stay in Fort.

Offer date and budget and we'll point you to alternatives.
