Comfort Inn and Suites???

Can get a great rate at this hotel ($89/night military rate) for February (it's the Comfort Inn and Suites located at 3551 West Commercial Blvd in Ft. Lauderdale). Anybody have any experience with this hotel? How far is it from the airport and Port Everglades? Is it a dump or an okay hotel for one night? Clean?

Whenever we travel we search for the Choice Hotel Chain hotels. We have NEVER had a bad room. They are clean, secure, and comfortable. Now some could use an updating but other than that no problems. If you join their loyalty program you can earn a free night stay. Enjoy your trip:)

We stayed at the Comfort Inn/Suites in Dania (right by FLL) they picked us in a van from the airport. The hotel was clean, staff friendly and they do offer a shuttle to the port for the next day.

There is a walgreens next door and a small strip mall with a resturant. We did not eat there but got good food at the deli in the grocery store. Picked up soda/water for the cruise also. There were a couple of resturants that would deliver otherwise you would need to take a cab to eat if the deli or resturant there did not suite you. Otherwise there is nothing much else there. But if your looking for a good place to sleep with a nice breakfast this is a good choice.

WE have also stayed at the one on Stirling Road, also a good choice, they too offered airport pickup and a shuttle to the port. There was shopping/resturants within walking at this one. Clean/friendly staff also. This one was booked up so we stayed at the one in Dania instead.

Have not tried the one you mentioned.

We have stayed at the Comfort Inn on Stirling Rd on several cruises and found it to be excellent. The rates are better than those hotels around the port. They have excellent shuttle service from the airport and to the pier. They have a nice free breakfast and on our last trip a gal who made omelettes at the pool. Our rooms have always been clean. There is a McDonalds and Taco Bell next door and a nice "streetcar" type diner a couple blocks away. I think it is good value for the money.

Glad to hear these positive posts.... We have reservations for our Pre-Cruise on Nov 25th... Does this hotel provide shuttle to the pier???

Comfort Inn on Stirling Road in Hollywood has a shuttle to the pier, but the one on Commerical Blvd. is quite a ways north and inland, close to Executive Airport, not FLL. It's about a half hour drive to Port Everglades. If you're going to stay up there you'll want to rent a car as that would be far cheaper than taxis.

Trent, I was told that the Comfort Inn and Suites on Commercial Blvd. is only 7.5 miles from Port Everglades. How could that take 30 minutes? Was I given incorrect information? I know FLL is about 5 miles from Marriott Marina Hotel, and that only takes us about 10 minutes.

You were told wrong... Perhaps 7.5 miles in a straight line, but on the streets it's more like double that! And it's not nearly as quick and easy to get there as it is to get to Marina Marriott.

Traffic down here is quite heavy most of the time, it's going to be pretty close to 30 minutes much of the day. It usually takes me almost a half hour to go from downtown Fort Lauderdale to Executive Airport, and that Comfort Inn is just west of Executive Airport, and Port Everglades is 10 minutes south of downtown Fort Lauderdale, so...

Trent, I just cancelled the Comfort Inn on Commercial Blvd. and booked the Holiday Inn Express Air/Sea Port. It looks to be newer and more centrally located than the Holiday Inn Express Convention Center. Was this a good choice? The military rate was $123/night plus tax.

No, the Holiday Inn Express "Convention Center" is the better one... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hd/fllcc

Yes, that other one is new, but it's in a nasty neighborhood. There isn't much to walk to, and it's a dangerous area at night. Even though it calls itself "air/seaport" it's actually farther from the airport, and much farther from the port than the "Convention Center" one.

The best area for cruisers to stay in is SE 17th Street. That area is less than 10 minutes from FLL, just outside the entrance to Port Everglades, and has many many shops, dozens of restaurants of all kinds, 2 grocery stores, 2 drug stores, 3 liquor stores, and the very popular Water Taxi all within SAFE, easy walking distance.

These are the "budget" hotels in that area...
