Gataway - 11:20 flight can I make it?

Can you? Yes it's possible.

Here are some negatives to think about

1) Ship late getting back ( Med. emergency/engine trouble)

2) customs not releasing ship right away ( random inspection )

3) traffic accident with whatever mode of transportation you use

4) The stress of worrying about it the last night( yes you will be concerned )

5) Long, Long lines at security.

6) 35-40 minute trip from Port to FLL.

The cruiselines suggest after 1 p.m. for a reason .

There have been many who have made it, just weigh your options if you don't . Fees for rebooking if you miss your flight.

Good luck!

It's possible, assuming:

The ship, for any reason, is not delayed coming into port.

Customs/immigration is not backed up or short staffed.

Your one of the first to depart the ship after docking at 8am.

There are no serious accidents between POM and FLL.

There are not a lot of cruise ship arrivals that morning in both MIA and FLL (the check in and security lines can be huge on big cruise ship days.

I'd give you odds of success in the 85%-90% range.

I loathe FLL. A few things to help you along.

1. Don't wait around for a shuttle. Either have a car service waiting for you or spring for a cab.

2. If you haven't already, invest in TSA PreCheck. This will save you some time at security.

3. What airline are you flying? If you are flying SWA, make sure you know where to go. The last time I flew Southwest from there, the baggage check-in line upstairs was for those with two hours or less before their flights. The line downstairs was for those whose flights are more than 2 hours out. But check the details before you get in line -- those windows have varied.

Our flight in February is at 11:30. We are in suite, so we plan on walking off and having a car ready to take us.

Thank you everyone. I have flown a few times form FLL when cruising into

Miami. It has always been on Carnival, which always got into port very early.

Does NCL get in early also. I was going to book SAS which I have used in the past also. They say they have shuttles at the port at 6:00 am.

Carry your luggage off and you most likely will be fine. We usually fly out of FLL before noon and have not had an issue. Getawy has been docked before we even wake up all 3 times we have taken her.

If you have trip interruption insurance or would be able to arrange a later flight should something happen... give it a whirl. I've worked on ships for many years and I'd say that out of Miami, 25% of the time ships are delayed for one reason or another (usually customs) It's also hectic getting transportation once you get off the ship which can delay things even further.
