Norwegian Breakaway Room Question

Hello! We are actually on the Breakaway right now!

To answer your question, the rooms on the RIGHT (Starboard) side of the ship (so in your case the room on deck 13) have a view of the Statue of Liberty leaving NYC. The LEFT side rooms (port) have a view of the city buildings leaving port. That doesn't really matter though, because most people stand on one of the public decks while leaving NYC so you can pick which side you want to be on... someone gave me this advice and it worked out perfect. During disembarkment from NYC go to deck 8 Aft, there is hardly anyone there and you can see both sides!!

We are in deck 9 forward and love it. Most everything (except the pool) is on deck 6,7,8 so it's super easy to get to everything from deck 9!

Hope that helps!!

For embarkation, deck 9's balcony would be facing NYC's skyline but as many noted, SOL will be starboard (right) side of the ship - it will only last 30 minutes & beyond that, not going to make a world of difference once it's under the VZ Bridge & out to sea.

Deck 9's location is above the duty-free/gift shops and will be pretty quiet, day & night as there are no insides across the hallway, only crew/service area, etc. and it's lower, mid-ship toward AFT elevators - convenient to walk down to decks 6-7-8 where many public venues are and easy enough to ride up to deck 15 or the buffet & pool, etc. It is best situated for disembarkation (it's a well kept secret for NYC cruisers) due to the cruise terminal's layout & CBP.

Deck 13 is across/next to Splash Academy so you will likely have a little "extra" junior traffic & parents walking by, maybe and it is higher, more prone to vertical & horizontal motion if seas are rough, depending on the itinerary & season. Cigarette smoking is permitted at designated outdoor space on starboard side so there's always a chance you will catch it on deck 13, unlike deck 9 as smoking isn't allowed on port side.

Neither rooms are bigger than average, deck 13 might be on a higher tier based on the color but size-wise, especially the micro balcony - they are virtually identical.

Ship will dock one way or another at Dockyard, almost always at Heritage Wharf, there's no way to predict as they need to rotate and do regular safety/lifeboat drills. I'm not sure if MeatballNYC (regular CC'er) is keeping track of it anymore as I think another one is doing that lately.

As for motion, midship & lower deck are always preferred over higher deck on the same vertical axis - especially with rough seas ... although, with the *Away class ships, she can handle some fairly big waves of 15' or even 20' in heights, without - when seas are calm, you will hardly noticed anything while the ship is moving, with 5' to 7' or even 10' waves, unless your stateroom is extreme Fwd or AFT, at the risk of being pitched up & down as well as sideway movement, even with all "systems" deployed to smooth out the ride as best as the ship is designed to.

Seasoned passengers that cruised often & don't get motion sickness on those roller coaster rides on land are probably okay anywhere on a ship ... just keep in mind, that in the unlikely situation where the ship has to run along and with a big storm, it can be more than a few hours of getting tossed aroundl. The Atlantic crossing out to/from Bermuda can sometimes be a pretty rough one ...

There is, of course, intervention via Bonine, its generic equivalent and other similar remedies - given out "free" but the lines at Guest Services can sometimes be rather long, we always pack along some with us, just in case.
