Juneau Tram question

I believe the tram starts running at 8 am, and you would want about an hour to get to the top, see the views and get down again, depending on crowds and line-ups.

That being said - Juneau has several docking berths and one that involves tendering, so depending on your cruise line and how many ships are in port that day, you may not be next to the tramway itself, and you may have to wait in line for the tender. We have always been lucky with HAL and always docked close to the tramway!

When will you be in Juneau - there is a website that gives the cruise ship schedule so you which ships will be docked the day you are there.. if there are only 2 or three you should be close to the tram.

It is well worth the ride as the views are terrific!

Here is a link to cruise ship schedules for various ports. Oddly it is a Ketchikan web site but has links to all the ports. Really handy for seeing how busy a port will be on a given day. Also shows which dock a ship will be at. At Juneau AS is Alaska Steamship dock, AJ is Alaska Juneau and CT is Cruise Terminal. Schedule is 2016 but will probably be updated in 2017.

  • 2 weeks later...

The tram is a 6 minute ride. This loads and unloads very quickly and even if "lines", only, minutes of wait.

The operating hours vary. Call next year about a week before you go and get the direct information.

In addition to operating hours..... there's the unpredictable weather and low clouds....

Depending on where you dock and how close you are to the tram.... I would try the tram when you've finished all your excursions. However look up for clear skies before purchasing tickets.
