Riversanddale Posted October 8, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2016 Hi. Has anyone experienced any itinerary changes on this section of the rivers? We're curious what the modifications might be when we sail shortly. This is currently posted on Viking's trip update site: "Due to the construction work on the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal, the following itineraries will be slightly modified to avoid river closures: October 8th Grand European Tour aboard Viking Alsvin October 8th Rhine Getaway aboard Viking Tialf"
HenrysAunt Posted October 15, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 15, 2016 Hi. Has anyone experienced any itinerary changes on this section of the rivers? We're curious what the modifications might be when we sail shortly. This is currently posted on Viking's trip update site: "Due to the construction work on the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal, the following itineraries will be slightly modified to avoid river closures: October 8th Grand European Tour aboard Viking Alsvin October 8th Rhine Getaway aboard Viking Tialf" We went through late September and all was fine. The only place they had a concern for low water was between Dusseldorf and Cologne, but it only meant the ship had to go a little bit slower. That was with Scenic. I wonder if they are doing lock maintenance?
Riversanddale Posted October 16, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted October 16, 2016 Thanks, Henry's Aunt. Looks like the rivers are still dropping and Viking is beginning to swap boats on some routes.
Rare notamermaid Posted October 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 16, 2016 Hello Riversanddale, I would like to refer you to this post by Viking: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2308253&highlight=Amsterdam+Rhine+canal&page=14 #280. It really looks minor. If you would like to know more about it, perhaps contact Viking directly. Those construction works are independent of any water level issues and have been on the Viking website for a long time. notamermaid
cormike1 Posted October 16, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 16, 2016 Our friends are just getting off a Viking river cruise in Amsterdam today and have been e-mailing me regularly and didn't mention anything about any itinerary changes due to work or water levels.
