Is Guaranteed Room based on the Category name or Letter/Number

6536 looks like a D8 to me too. It's also a connecting stateroom, and that would be a reason to change for us.

If you booked under US/Canadian rules, they will normally allow you to change to another available D8. Just contact whoever booked your cruise and request the change. Don't mention the guarantee.

Good thinking. I found a room on the 8th floor that is not connecting. Should I worry about noise or anything? That's only if I'm on the 6th floor right?

What is the negative about having connecting staterooms?

Sound transmission from the other room is "enhanced". In other words, if your neighbors are quiet, there's little difference. However if your neighbors are noisy, you will be able to hear that sound much better through a connecting door.

I have had connecting rooms and it was no worse than non connecting. Its not the door that enhances noise its the idiot neighbors that enhance the noise. Dont blame the poor ship

I just did this a few weeks ago. As stated go online to find open rooms then call RCI (if you booked directly) and let them know you want to change. Don't EVER mention it was a gty though.

Once done give it about 5 minutes and check online to make sure nothing happened with price, etc and the cabin changed.

When I did this since I booked directly I just called C&A and was no problem.
