firerecruit71295 Posted November 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Good morning everyone~ Just wondering what the word is in the Caribbean right now about the Zika virus. I thought I read some articles that hurricane Matthew helped resolve some of the Zika issues. Has anyone heard anything about the situation down there? Thanks in advance everyone! cruiserjanet Posted November 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2016 (edited) We just got back from the Caribbean on the Royal Princess and they talked about taking precautions against it but no one that I talked to seemed concerned. I made sure I had mosquito repellent over my sunscreen just to be sure. But I normally do that anyway when going to the Caribbean. firerecruit71295 Posted November 17, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Thanks. That is what we did the last time... Found some repellent that had high DEET content and had no issues. Just wanted to see if anyone knew of any changes (good or bad) in regards to the Zika concerns.
Ocean Dancer Posted November 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 17, 2016 We got an email from Royal and our travel agent the other day to pack bug spray. We leave on Monday for the Southern Caribbean.
easyboy Posted November 17, 2016 #5 Share Posted November 17, 2016 We always carry those repellents whenever we are in a tropical weather. Better to be safe than sorry. Sent from my iPad using Forums

MattInFLL Posted November 18, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) I got the Zika warning email from Royal yesterday (I cruise next week). Zika is not going anywhere and is unfortunately not a joke. Edited November 18, 2016 by MattInFLL
time4u2go Posted November 18, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 18, 2016 Actually many feel that Matthew might have made the Zika problem worse, because it deposited a lot of standing water in places didn't have it before. I hadn't seen anything about the situation becoming better.
