yotafan Posted December 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2016 I am interested in taking the family, myself, wife, 8 yr son, 5 yr daughter and 3 yr son on a cruise next year. My question is what room type is recommended for a family of 5? Is it possible to get a standard cabin that has two queen beds and just triple up in one of them or have someone sleep on the floor? We live in NJ and would most likely leave from NJ/NY area so if you have any cabin recommendations or cruise line recommendations is greatly recommended. cb at sea Posted December 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 27, 2016 Do you have a cruise line in mind? Most cabins only hold 4 people...to get something larger, you have to book via the phone...so get your deck plans handy, and call on the phone to book 5 or more! I would prefer 2 connecting cabins...kids in one, adults in the other. 2 bathrooms, privacy for the adults...and the kids have their own messy space! travel2manydestinations Posted December 27, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 27, 2016 As a family of 5 myself, we have traveled quite a bit and we always had connecting cabins. We have done this on carnival and royal Caribbean lines. Sent from my SM-T560NU using Forums mobile app
RSLeesburg Posted December 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2016 Royal Caribbean has several family rooms on Anthem that will fit 5. But I think you need to call them to book them; you cannot do it online. PS: no cruise line has a standard room with 2 queen beds. Some have 2 bedroom suites, but they are very pricey. serene56 Posted December 27, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2016 MOST cabins have 2 single beds that are pushed together to make a queen Some older ships allow for 5 with one of the beds being a rollaway. (carnival sunshine) I recommend a balcony so you and spouse have an escape while kids are sleeping or napping

debb75 Posted January 12, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 12, 2017 We have 5 also. You have to book an adult in each room when booking but we have had a connecting balcony on Princess. There are connecting rooms on most ships but you have to book early. Our next cruise is with Carnival and my parents are joining us. We booked 3 rooms in a row and the kids in the middle. I have requested the partition open but we will wait and see if we can. Your kids will have a blast and use the kids clubs. We were able to see shows and even hit the casino. leejay22 Posted January 14, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2017 We sailed on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas in a family oceanview. You do need to call for 5 in one room - and RCL, Norwegian and Disney all have them. We had bunkbeds built into the wall as you entered the cabin (curtain to pull across and block light), then the bed and a sofa bed the folded into a bed (futon style) with a curtain that separated those two areas. It worked well - and our kids were 10, 12 and 14 at the time.
