queenb113 Posted December 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2016 Hi all, Has anyone tried buying tickets for a cruise on the sail date to see if they could get a better deal? Obviously the risk of doing that is that you don't get to sail, but if you could handle the risk, just wondering if there are better deals to be had that way. CruiserBruce Posted December 27, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 27, 2016 Most cruise lines don't sell you a ticket under 24 hours prior to sailing..some the line is 72 hours. How would you get to the port in a tight time frame?
Viv0828 Posted December 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2016 I think the days of buying a cruise ship ticket on sailing day are similar to the days of waking to your gate at the airport without going through security - long gone. louanne93 Posted January 15, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 15, 2017 Just put in a mock booking for the Inspiration Jan. 16-20. It took me all the way to the payment. Cruise leaves tomorrow! Good room on Empress $734 for 2. Only 1 room left. They also had guarantee upper/lower cabins for $634!

thinfool Posted January 16, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 16, 2017 It is easy to buy on the last day but you must deal through a Travel Agent or with the cruise line over the phone. It is all but impossible to 'walk-up' and book a cabin. In recent years I have never heard of any 'real deals' from this method of sailing. Indeed, the cruise lines, if there are vacancies, begin several days before sailing to fill cabins with travel industry personnel, family of crew and others who qualify for deeply discounted fares. We have, on occasion, been offered thru our TA, really great rates on the 'next sailing' of a ship that we are already on. Sadly we have never been able to take advantage of these.
