james j feller Posted November 9, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 9, 2005 We will be in SYDNEY APRIL 2006 for 3 nights and want to go to a good seafood restaurant, maybe the rocks area as we are staying at the FOUR SEASONS. We are hungry for lobster or in AUSTRALIA i think they call them crayfish. Of course any type of seafood would do. thanJIM
maxx Posted November 9, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 9, 2005 We call them lobster. Someone will give you a list of good restaurants, but I will also suggest you go to the fish markets, easy walk far from Darling Harbour. This will give you a HUGE choice of seafood. Aussie Gal Posted November 10, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2005 maxx, You Sydneysiders may call them lobster, but down here and in S.A. and Tasmania they are called crayfish and the best ones come from King Island. They are huge and delicious and there is nothing like them anywhere else in the world. Jim, I know Doyles has been over rated, but for good fish you can't beat them. I also had a lovely fish meal at "Catalina" out at Rose Bay and I think you can get good fish at "Aqua" just over the bridge in Millson's Point and there is also "Jordan's" at Darling Harbour. Also ask the concierge at the Four Seasons where he would suggest you go and he will probably make a booking for you wherever. Jennie
Kiwi Kruzer Posted November 10, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 10, 2005 I know Doyles has been over rated, but for good fish you can't beat them. Jennie I agree Jennie. To me Doyles is an icon of Sydney. They must be doing something right to have kept going from strength to strength for all those years. David. Jane110 Posted November 10, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 10, 2005 James, I highly recommend having dinner at Rockpools. Walk out of your hotel, make a left and walk for about 2 blocks and there it is. Do make a resy and it's always busy. Food is fabulous! catzatsea Posted January 14, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2006 I never liked Doyoles either and never recommend it to anyone. Jane I would only ever reccommend Doyles in Watson Bay never the one in the city. Unfortunately Watsons Bay is just a little out of the way for the tourist to travel for a meal. Though it does have a fantastic view back down the harbour.:) James J Feller - If you happen to be a gambler or heading to check the star city casino out they have a restaurant called Pyrmonts that has a Deluxe Seafood Platter for two ($135 AU) that includes Lobster and is simply divine. Below is a link to the menu. http://www.starcity.com.au/dir013/internetpublishing.nsf/AttachmentsByTitle/menuPyrmonts_AlaCarte/$FILE/AlaCarte.pdf You also cannot go wrong with Rockpools being your restaurant of choice. Have a look at a thread I started a while ago called Restuaurants - Sydney, Melbourne. I list many of my favorite Sydney places there. You definitely need to hit Rockpools. catsmum Posted January 14, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2006 You should try the Manly Beach Hut. Brilliant location for a restaurant. My personal preference is always Manly over Bondi
jane02 Posted January 15, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 15, 2006 We visit Sydney alot. Our favorite restaurant is Rockpool at the Rocks. Book ahead as it is very popular. A great place for lunch is Icebergs at Bondi - great views, great food - also very popular. The Bathers Pavillion at Balmoral is also great for lunch. NZYU Posted January 27, 2006 #17 Share Posted January 27, 2006 We walked around the Pier, looked at menus, compared prices and food. Selected a place facing the water. Think it was called the Blue Fish or something like that. They had a great seafood platter featuring all sorts of "bugs," aka lobster/crayfish, octopus, and about six other seafood delacies. Food, price, the view, and service were great. Several people in our tour group took the director's advice and ate at a place farther down the pier. They were totally disappointed in it. Also, there is a place for great desserts called "La Passatori" or something like that. It is located between the police station and the Rocks in a little out of the way shop. It was recommended on the Fodor's board and we searched and searched to find it but it was worth it. Pricey and small desserts but delicious.
