kdowneymd Posted January 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) We are considering (very belatedly)a one week cruise out of Vancouver on Celebrity leaving July 9 2017. I like the itinerary because it includes the Hubbard glacier. Does anyone have experience with this itinerary and comments on weather conditions. Thank you Edited January 9, 2017 by kdowneymd
TheCalicoCat Posted January 9, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 9, 2017 1. Not every ship that has Hubbard on its itinerary make it to the glacier - too much ice. (Ditto Tracy Arm.) Many on CC highly recommend a sailing that includes Glacier Bay for a guaranteed glacier viewing. 2. The weather changes too much. Dress in layers & pack everything from shorts & t-shirts to a heavy coat, hat & gloves.
Ashland Posted January 9, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 9, 2017 (edited) We've cruise on RCI Radiance several times the northbound and Vancouver round-trip in May & September and have never missed Hubbard Glacier. A few times we have gotten "extremely" close....our experiences have been amazing. We even saw the Northern Lights on a September cruise !! TheCalicoCat Posted January 10, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 10, 2017 Just moderating expectations. There are several people on CC who have a 50/50 or less Hubbard viewing ratio. And 90% of the Northern Lights chatter on Cruise Critic is A. You aren't going to see them on a cruise & B. Cruise season is the wrong time of the year. So maybe like the 30% who get to see Denali, you are lucky.
kdowneymd Posted January 11, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted January 11, 2017 Thank-you for your input. For a variety of reasons (mainly we need Saturday to Saturday) we are booked on Ruby Princess leaving July 8 rt Seattle. It includes Glacier Bay. This is our first Alaska cruise for husband and I. The plan is to return in several years with children and hopeful grand-children. Am currently looking at booking independent excursions
TheCalicoCat Posted January 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 11, 2017 Thanks for coming back to tell us what you chose. I hope you have a great cruise. I'm at the stage where I have my tours booked & just have to wait for time to elapse. (So I can read 2017 AK reviews on CC & so that we can sail!)
