Montego Bay Ideas???

We'll be stopping in Mo Bay on our Regal Princess March 12th cruise and just wondering what there is to do? We have two adults and two teen girls(16). We're not interested in a long drive (i.e. hour and half to Negril). Anything good to do relatively close to the port? Beaches, good bars, zip lining, etc? We've already done Dunn's a few times and again, not interested in longer drives.

Thanks in advance for any tips! :)

We did the zipline from MoBay... it is about 45-60 minute bus ride inland up winding roads. Very cool views and our bus driver kept everyone talking, giving us history and information. It went fast.

The zipline was FUN and we would do it again.

Was this a cruise line tour or can you book it directly with the provider?

Thanks!

Has anyone stayed in/near Montego Bay to do anything? Any close beaches (10 -25 min away)?

yes, there are beaches, but you can't really walk to them, take a taxi or I understand there is a bus. There are lots of excursions through the ship and also several independent companies. Lots to see, just not right in front of the port. You need to take transportation of some sort.

Yes we've stayed near Doctors Cave Beach (DCB), great area to stay as a base for traveling to other areas of the island.

We've been traveling the Carib for almost 20 years and have enjoyed many gorgeous beaches and DCB is one of our favorites. See Mile in Negril is nice as well, but just lacks the natural beauty and character of DCB. Small entry fee for maintenance and safety, and there is a nice bar there.

Margaritaville is a short walk from the beach with the water slide into the ocean.

Perfect spot for a nice beach and lunch day!:)

[EDIT]

Do not take a ship excursion, just hop a taxi.

If you want a great jerk chicken dish and a chance to try the best Scotchies is a 10 min taxi to the east, but the food at Margaritaville is good.

"See Mile" should be Seven Mile Beach, sry.

Friends just returned from Sandals and said DCB is as gorgeous as ever and not crowded the week they were there.

The DCB Hotel where we've stayed is across the street and they have a fun little bar, Kenny is the entertainment coordinator there and is a great guy.

Thanks for the suggestion. DCB sounds exactly like what we're looking for, something close and an easy taxi ride in. I'm a little confused though...isn't Margaritaville in Negril approx an hour away, or is it closer to DCB?

Thanks!

There is more than one Margaritavville in Jamaica. Seems like there is one in every port as well as other tourist cities.

The Margaritaville in Montego Bay is right past DCB. Our zipline tour gave us the option of dropoff there on the way back instead of taking us to the ship. Everyone on the bus said yes. It was nice, a catamaran excursion was there already and we just sat upstairs, had drinks, then our bus came back for us an hour later to take us to our ship. Worked perfectly.

here are a few photos from Margaritaville in MontegoBay.

it is 2-story, with a slide into the ocean from top.

it gets crowded, bar service is slow....but that is the way Margaritaville is everywhere!

There are 4 Margaritavilles we've visited on Jamaica (may be more now). The one by DCB is a fun one with a great waterslude into the sea. Great parties at night!

You will love DCB, and Margaritaville is a 15 second walk from the beach entry.

We are on the same sailing. We decided in Resort for a Day pass at Rose Hall Hilton. Unlimited food and drinks. Beach and pools. Lazy river and small slides from what I understand.

We did this last year. They have several options for food. They have a buffet that was good, a restaurant that serves Jerk chicken, very good. Burger place not that great. Kids had a great time in the lazy river and we really liked the beach.

I'll be going to Montego Bay in May '18 but I'm trying to figure out what excursions I need to save for. We'd like to spend time at the beach since this is our first time there. Does DCB have anything entertaining for the kids to do? Beach inflatables or something? Is Jamaica like Cozumel where you can get off the ship, find a taxi, and have them take you to a beach of your selection?

I don't remember any inflatables other than the large one by Margaritaville. Perhaps someone who has been more recently can be of more help.

Taxi yes, and No need to book anything, just pay the entry fee when you arrive and get there early to get a nice spot.
