Trolley

You can reach most of the points of interest by trolley. Check out Castillo San Cristobal, Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Iglesia San Jose, La Fortaleza, Catedral de San Juan, Parque de las Palomas, and Puerta de San Juan among others. Keep in mind that there are several routes that are color coded so make sure that the trolley that you're boarding takes you where you want to go. You can download trolley maps online or you can obtain a hard copy locally when you arrive in San Juan. There's a Visitor's Center just a few feet just west of the cruise ship docks.

While the trolley is a great way to get around the old city free of charge, also keep in mind that the area is fairly compact and you can reach most points of interest by simply walking (which is a great way to explore the various shops, restaurants and galleries throughout the city). You will need to be in fairly decent health as there's a fair amount of uphill walking, specially when working your way away from the cruise ships. You can always take the trolley in one direction and then walk on the way back as it will be mostly downhill.

Whatever you chose to do, allow yourself plenty of time to explore. Old San Juan is a fantastic destination and truly a highlight of any cruise that either originates or stops in San Juan. Enjoy!

Have taken the Trolley a few times and great. all three overlap downtown and both forts. Just fun to get on one and ride, sightsee and take pictures. Go to San Juan chamber of commerce and get info, maps etc. for color coded trolley and shows all stops. Bob The Villages Florida. Taking our 58th to 60th cruise this fall
