raiderfan95959 Posted March 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2017 Is it a reasonable walk from the ship into the town of Fort de France? Thinking of using Martinique as a "no tour" "no beach" day. Thanks.
eyern1 Posted March 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2017 If you can walk out of the port! It's right there. Lovely place.Have fun, but let me recommend a tour of the island with Karambole tours. The owner Christelle gives a great tour!
jamesboat Posted March 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2017 Yes you are right in the town. However, I dont think it will entertain you for a full day. Maybe 2 hours.
rkacruiser Posted April 1, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2017 One dock puts you closer to downtown than the other. The other dock is fine, however. After a slightly long walk on the padded (yes, padded) pier, you are in the area where you can leave the port. Lots of vendors have tents set up at that location and many of them have items that were of interest, I thought.
OCruisers Posted April 2, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 2, 2017 Just agreeing ... the vendors had more items of interest than normal. ;)
joniv Posted April 14, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 14, 2017 Does anyone know if The Cathedral of Saint-Louis is close enough to the ship to walk?
Piper934 Posted May 25, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2017 Cathedral is close enough, it's right in town. We stopped there, then walked over to Ft. St. Louis. Then went along water front on way back. Small, guess you'd call it a beach there as well, did see locals and cruise guests in the water. Morebeer Posted June 9, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 9, 2017 Was just in Martinique May 20th on the Carnival Sunshine. The town is easily reached from where the ship tied up. However wish Carnival would substitute a different stop then Martinique. Found very little of interest while going thru the shops in town, plus very limited shore excursions available. Everyone I spoke to on the ship treated it as a mainly stay on board stop and spent very little time exploring the island itself.
