Past Guest Cabin Upgrades

Can anyone tell me how this really works. I just went to Carnival and went through the booking process as a past guest (I am a VIFP), I then went through the booking progress as if I had never cruised before and the exact ship, floor, cabin was the same exact price. Just wondering where the upgrade really comes in.

VIFP Level may have something to do with it. While I didn't get an upgrade, I was able to save $60 using my VIFP. I tried to get the same rate for my daughter, but it gave her the regular rate ($60 more). When I asked Carnival they said it was because she is only Red Level.

Basically the 2 category upgrade for past guests boils down to this, if you pick any of the first 3 category within a cabin type you will pay the same price. You are not being upgraded from an interior to balcony for the same price, but just to a "better" location for the same type of The difference comes into play once you get out of the A, B, & C cabin designations, especially with balconies.

SO for any cabin type a category

A, B, & C - will all be priced the same as the rack rate of any cabin type for a category A cabin

D - will all be priced the same as the rack rate of any cabin type for a category B cabin

E - will all be priced the same as the rack rate of any cabin type for a category C cabin

F - will all be priced the same as the rack rate of any cabin type for a category D cabin

G -will all be priced the same as the rack rate of any cabin type for a category E cabin

and so on down the line

So all the Interior cabins on Decks 1 & 2 will be priced the same, as will all for Ocean View ones on these deck share the same booking price, as Deck 1 interiors forward & aft are designated 4A and mid-ship ones are 4B, up on deck 2 interiors forward & aft are designated 4B and mid-ship ones are 4C (again a similar designation for OVs but they are 6A, B, & C except when are the 5 person the deluxe or extended OV is available which I think is a 6N). 4C interiors are also found up at the next deck with cabins in the forward and aft section.

Also I've noticed since the "upgraded" booking selection went online that the cookies are stored, sometimes showing you you VIFP rates even when not logged-in. So to compare apples to apples clear you browse history before looking at the rack rates

What Maryred said. Basically you can get 2 category upgrade cabin for free with your past guest rate. if you choose say a balcony room down in the lower levels then you will not benefit from the past guest rate discount. If you choose a balcony room up on Lido deck then you should benefit from the past guest rate and pay the same rate for the Lido balcony as you would for a balcony room on deck 6 or 7.

OR!!!

Call your PVP and be nice and he "might" cut ALL upgrade costs and only charge you lowest balcony rate for a balcony on Lido deck at the front of the ship. I cant say or deny how I know this last bit of information. :halo::p ERRRR wait yes I can. cause my PVP did this for me on my current booking. LOL. and its only my second cruise ever.

I got upgraded from an interior on deck 6 to an interior deck 8. I kept checking the rates to see if I could get a better rate. Wound up saving $500. Got bored and decided to check prices again an found that I could get a balcony on deck 6 for the same price as the interior on deck 8. I hope it was a good upgrade. I've heard that you can smell the smoke from the casino on deck 6. So keep checking the rates and call your pop and see what they can do for you.
