Dixiebelle13 Posted August 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Putting aside the recent post about P&O's alcohol policy, does anybody know if it's possible to purchase wine in most of the Caribbean ports? We're doing a fly cruise in Jan 2018 (starting in Barbados) and we do like a glass while getting ready on an evening. I'm debating whether to take a box with me (or a bag as I've seen in our local supermarket - lighter!) but if I can buy a bottle for a reasonable price at the ports I won't bother... :wine-glass:

tartanexile81 Posted August 30, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2017 We've always found the choice of wine very limited in the Caribbean, so I'd take a box / bag with you. Sent from my iPad using Forums
SoupPlease Posted August 30, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2017 We buy a coupe of bottles of wine at our departure airport and take in on the flight with our hand luggage.
NauticalMiss Posted August 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2017 We've never bought wine in the Caribbean ports. The prices on board are so reasonable, we have never felt the need. You could always purchase a bottle through room service; keep it nice and chilled in the fridge and have your pre-dinner tipple that way.

Dixiebelle13 Posted August 30, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted August 30, 2017 Thanks all - and good idea about picking some up at the airport. £15 isn't bad but as others have mentioned it's still twice the price of buying on shore. I'd guessed choice might be limited in the Caribbean though so I might pack everything first and if I have some spare room/weight! I'm not a wine connoisseur (or I wouldn't be talking about bringing a bag lol) but I only like dry wines and if it's all sweet stuff I'll be snookered :-)
SoupPlease Posted August 31, 2017 #8 Share Posted August 31, 2017 As you like dry wine, I suggest you pick up a couple of bottles of Villa Maria sauvignon blanc from WorldofDutyFree at the airport.

lodge172 Posted August 31, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 31, 2017 Wine is limited in the ports and not very good value. Spirits are a much better deal. Maybe have a nice G&T instead.
Sussexboy Posted August 31, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 31, 2017 I can recommend the Chapel Down Bacchus, it is very reasonably priced on board and is very palatable. It is cheaper on board than I can find it at home and I live almost next door to the vineyard.
