Repositioning Cruise

Next spring, my wife and I will be on a one-day repositioning cruise from Vancouver to Seattle and then will stay on the Ruby for a cruise to Alaska. Other than there not being many people on the ship, what can we expect? Amenities? Service? Food? How different will it be?

Why do you think there won't be many people on the ship? AFAIK, those 1-day cruises are very popular with people in the area and usually sell out.

Haha...just repeating information given to us. I don't care how many people are on it as long as I am one of them!

I guess it won’t be different from any day on a regular cruise except the public places and venues where many guests with a short stay onboard are enjoying their time.

We have always found the one night cruises to be a bit chaotic. Long lines for Anytime Dining. Party atmosphere and many larger groups celebrating special occasions (bachelor parties, girls night out, etc.) That said, we still do the one nighters if they fit into our schedule.

Thanks for this interesting info. We've never done a repositioning before, so this is very helpful. We were going to take Amtrak back to Seattle, but couldn't pass this opportunity up. At least we'll know what to expect.

We just did the north bound one nighters on Ruby & Emerald. The ships were sold out!

 

Ruby had more special groups probably because it was a saturday boarding - there was a fairly large wedding party, a 70th birthday group, some stagettes/girls weekends groups & lots of big family groups with kids.

 

Most other cruisers seem to fall into two groups - newbies checking out cruising & cruisers working on getting to the next loyalty level (some book single to get double points or single in a suite to get triple points).

 

It's a great time to check out the specialty restaurants. Dining room menu always seems to be the prime rib menu.

 

There's usually a production show, comedian, karaoke & lots of other music - sometimes trivia. The shops will open but the casino rarely opens. Lots of sale stuff in the shops, especially alcohol.

 

If you are platinum or elite all the benefits are available - priority boarding, wifi, p/e lounge, elite minibar setup & toiletries. Returning cruisers will usually get a voucher for a complimentary beverage in lieu of the returning cruiser event. If you are eligible for the elite OBC you get that & can put in for any other OBC you might be eligible for - (military, stock)

As others have mentioned, you'll be amazed at the difference in clientele and atmosphere between the two cruises. The staff will be frazzled on the one-nighter, as they're not really in a position to earn much in the way of tips and accolades, and a majority of the clientele "wants everything for free yesterday". For the second cruise, they'll settle back into a rhythm, but they're also learning the new menus.

We do the one days almost every time. They’re great fun, but a bit chaotic like someone else mentioned. They’ve always been sold out.
