not C&A but have coupons

Recommended Posts

Hi there. We are going on the Mariner on January 8th. I purchased an Ultimate Value Booklet gold Member 7+ night cruises booklet through ebay. This is our first RCI cruise so we are not gold members yet. There are no expiration dates nor any C & A numbers located on the booklet. Can we use these coupons? They are the comp wine tasting, photo credit, casino credit, gift shop discount, wine discount, ice cream discount at ben & Jerry, seattles best coffee discount, spa credit and finally a Johny Rockets coupon. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no guarantee you'll be able to use them because at some point, the people on the ship might need to verify the c and a number. I would highly discourage anybody to buy any c & a coupons on ebay. People on there are just looking for a way to make a quick buck, knowing what the consequences in selling those coupons might be for the buyer.

It is a shame that people try to make a buck off of something that was free to them.

If you can get away with using them good. If not be aware next time you see them on eBay. :(

You have the coupon booklet so go ahead and attempt to use it.

Dont be surprised if you get shot down by staff members.

We have many extra booklets and we always pass out extra coupons to cruisers we are with and they can usually apply them without hassle.

Just be prepared to graciously walk away in the event that a staff member declines your request to use a coupon.

You should have no problem using the coupons. I have shared my coupons with first time cruise friends, and have had no problem. As a matter of fact, I leave my unused coupons in the room safe for the next room travelers to use. Do the same, write your e-mail on the booklet and hope the next user will e-mail you and tell you about their trip. Gives me a "warm fuzzy" when I do that.

We've left them also, but I've always wondered if the cabin steward throws them away - after all, they are supposed to clean the room and I would guess that would mean everything from a previous passenger must be taken away. I wouldn't oppose to finding an unused book from a previous passenger, but I never have. Just curious - has anyone found them in their cabin??

We have not found them, but my sister did last year on Mariner. It was her first cruise, and she came into our cabin all excited because she found this almost unused C&A coupon book in their safe. She asked if they could use it, and I said, "Why not" (yeah, I know; flame away if you want; we broke a rule). We used every drink coupon in that book, in our books, and in the special book our TA had sent us, LOL. She also used the wine tasting one and the buy-one-get-one photo one. (They were also invited to the C&A party with us because of the way that the cabins were originally booked.) But not to worry, that first cruise hooked them and they've already cruised Vision this year as legal C&A members, and are planning their next one.

Ever since then, we've left our unused coupons in the safe (not that there's much left except the art auction and bingo/casino ones). We figure either the steward will remove them or the next pax will get lucky. Either way, we can't lose.

First to answer the OP´s question. From the several responses you can see that it will mostly depend on the crew onboard if they will check or not. As others said you must be prepared to be denied the use of the coupon.

My next comment is absolutely not meant as a flame. I don´t know how much these coupon books go for on ebay but I think it´s highly questionable to sell those things on ebay knowing there might be a chance that it´s not usable for the buyer and the coupons in the gold book (if I remember correct) are mostly not coupons for free but more of the kind of buy one get one free.

So to everybody who thinks about buying a coupon book on ebay think about how much it might be worth to you before bidding on it.

I know I may be flamed for this but no problem go ahead.

If I would find a leftover coupon book in my cabin my first thought would not be thanks to the guest before. My first thought would be that the steward didn´t clean my cabin very well. I would really blame my steward for finding any leftovers from past guests in my room and be it a coupon book and I even could think about giving him a complaint call or lowering his rating on the comment card (probably depending on his work the rest of the cruise of course).

OK now flame away for this.

No flame here. I wondered about the steward thing myself - but I don't think I would complain about a coupon book if the rest of the cabin was clean. I worry more about what the previous passenger(s) leave on the bedding (blankets and bedspreads) than anything else. I can toss the coupon book in the trash, but the bedding is a little more difficult.

My only experience with the cleanliness versus C&A coupon book in the safe issue was the cruise where my sister found one. I can tell you, they had just about the best cabin steward we've seen. (For some weird reason, we had a different steward even though we were in adjoining cabins.) Their cabin was spotless, the bathroom was very clean, everything was spick and span. The coupon book had been pushed under the lip of the inside of the safe, so I can only assume that the steward did a check, didn't see anything, and continued on with his cleaning.

Thank you all for your help. I will just wait and see if we can use them. If not, I will find someone on the cruise that is a C & A member and let them have the two booklets. When I questioned the person that I bought them from on Ebay she stated that there was no number on them nor any way that showed that they were for C & A only. But when I got them each coupon does show it is for diamond members at the top. So I will try to use them and let you all know what the outcome was. Only 28 days until cruise time!!!!
