chengkp75 Posted October 16, 2017 #26 Share Posted October 16, 2017 Now that makes much more sense. Unless the ship was within inches of the bottom, there is no way even a much larger salt water cooling pump in the engine room, let alone a 10hp pool pump, would suck in that much sand, or even a little bit. They either had not backflushed the filter often enough, and it completely clogged and the pump pressure ruptured it, or the filter was so old the plastic retaining material broke and let the sand out. riclop Posted October 17, 2017 #27 Share Posted October 17, 2017 Lol...as I type this I may have answered my own question but.....not just carnival, from the time of leaving the ship to getting on the ship for a new cruise , are all pools and hot tubs drained each time? Thanks much. They are drained daily.
kcdancerkc Posted October 17, 2017 Author #28 Share Posted October 17, 2017 Wow, I learned much! As I was posting, I remembered getting off a ship or two and the pool was empty with a net over it. I just wasn't sure if this is every ship, every new sail. Thanks!

Yep, that's about what I figured. The crewmembers either made up a story for the passenger to make it sound good or they really didn't know what happened so they guessed. My money is on the first scenario.;)
