Len3 Posted December 15, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2005 My husband and I have sailed several times with RCCL, once with Princess and on Feb. 9th will be on the NCL Spirit. Which cruiseline and ship should we consider for a full transit Panama Canal? We loved both RCCL and Princess and don't know about NCL yet. Any info from previous passengers will be greatly appreciated.
Fredr Posted December 15, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2005 Hello, Celebrity has especially nice 14 day cruises from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale. San Diego is a wonderful departure port city because of its nice weather, close proximity of the airport to the port, and a large selection of hotels that will meet most budgets. Similiarly, Fort Lauderdale is also a great port city. Hope this helps, Fred
MrsBoo Posted December 16, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 16, 2005 We absolutely loved Radiance of the Seas - which sails San Diego to Miami in October and Miami to San Diego in April. A beautiful ship with lots of glass in public areas.
breenw Posted December 16, 2005 #4 Share Posted December 16, 2005 We sailed the RCCL ship Legend of the Seas last year for a 14 night Panama Canal trip. Started in San Diego and ended up in Ft. Lauderdale. It was the best vacation we have ever taken and we can't wait to do it again. Absolutely no complaints about the ship!!!
voyageur Posted December 16, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 16, 2005 We cruised Holland America (Maasdam) from Acapulco to Ft Lauderdale... absolutely loved it... We are definitely not fans of NCL.
Pudgesmom Posted December 16, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2005 We are trying Windstar for the Panama Canal over New Year's. The trip will start and end in Costa Rica. Beth
spaceguy Posted December 16, 2005 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2005 We did the Sun Princess in Sep for a canal transit from San Francisco to FLL the last two weeks of Sep this year. It was a great cruise! The Sun was returning to FL after the Alaskan season. She also stopped in Vancouver two days before San Francisco, with many Canadian and British passengers also boarding for the cruise. If you can travel in April/early May or the end of Sep/early Oct, a repositioning cruise is typically a good value and an enjoyable way to transit the Canal.
