These two along with the four seasons would add 1,000 hotel rooms to the city.

Plans were unveiled Thursday for a 350-room Hard Rock Hotel at the site of the former Woolworth department store in the 1000 block of Canal Street.

The 18-story, mixed-use development, led by Florida-based Hard Rock International, marks the latest signal that the mid-Canal Street corridor is gaining commercial traction with big-name brands and retailers, largely buoyed by an interest in downtown living and as New Orleans continues to thrive as a tourist destination.

The hotel, which is scheduled to open in spring 2019, will include 350 hotel rooms as well as 62 condos, including one-, two- and three-bedroom units, which will be up for sale in the coming months.

Harrah's New Orleans Casino wants to build a new, 340-room luxury hotel on top of its existing casino site at the foot of Canal Street. The hotel would go up where the casino's main entrance and driveway is currently located just off the intersection of Canal and Convention Center Boulevard.

Harrah's is pitching the 24-story hotel to state and local lawmakers as part of a $350 million plan to update its facilities and give visitors more entertainment options outside of gambling, according to a presentation the company shared with NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune. The plan includes upgrades and additions to dining and entertainment at the casino as well as Fulton Street, but no gaming expansions.
