A&Jfamily Posted February 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2018 Can anyone provide some insight into what it is like to be on a Viking Danube cruise between Dec 24-26? I know that many of the markets will have shut down, but we will have a few ports (embarkation 20th) with them available. Due to my son's likely Christmas break schedule, to take the cruise the week earlier just isn't feasible and I am wondering what to expect in the ports those days and on the ship. Appreciate any experiences as a search didn't narrow to this time frame! Thanks!
robertmartha Posted February 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2018 A&JFamily While we did not sail Viking - we sailed AMA on the Danube (embarked 12/25 thru New Yrs Day). As you mentioned - markets were closed and while most towns / ports were quiet (some really quiet and shuttered) other stops Vienna, Salzberg, Budapest were bustling! We had a blast - weather cooperated which was a huge plus. I posted quite a bit if you do a search for AMASerena. While the lines are different - would think the ports would be similar. Any questions - please ask away. Would we do it again - in a heartbeat. And what we found was that our sailing was filled with many multi-generational families (high school - college age) like us - great group of fellow passengers - very diverse and ACTIVE mix. A&Jfamily Posted February 21, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted February 21, 2018 I am now looking at a cruise over New Years...any thoughts on a cruise departing 12/27? It seems that Ama and Viking are not offering these for 2018, but are in 2019...
robertmartha Posted February 21, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 21, 2018 I almost think that would be better. We found 12/26 and 12/27 especially to be very quiet in the towns/cities we visited - with activity picking up the closer to New Yrs. We disembarked New Yrs Day - but could have used an extra day on board to recover from New Yrs Eve ;). AMA kept the wine flowing allllllllll night.
