Questions about arrival/departure from Port of Manhattan

Our last embarkation on the Breakaway was an absolute nightmare because of a half-marathon in NY that morning. Hours of sitting in traffic, long lines outside at the port, basically complete chaos. We are hoping that this experience was only because of the marathon. This year the half-marathon takes place on our debarkation day.

 

We have a 9:30 arrival and like to be among the first to arrive at the port. We will parking at the port. I'm wondering how early we can arrive and if we should expect to have to wait outside in the cold for a fair bit?

 

I'm also wondering if anyone has any thoughts on our debarkation timing with the half-marathon being in NY that day? Should we carry off our luggage and be one of the first off or hang tight and exit last? We have to drive about 7 hours home that day.

We always arrive around 9:45 and go right in. As for the marathon, just check out the route ahead of time. We’ve embarked on the day of a half marathon, and coming from NJ, encountered zero traffic and road closures.
