Pearl64 Posted March 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2018 We toured two mansions on our own last summer. Close to the tender pier is a Tourist Information building. They were very helpful and sold us tickets to the houses. We were directed to take the trolley which we got outside the tourist building. You can google Newport Mansions and find out about the houses. We even did part of the walk along the ocean. We probably could have done another house but we did not want to push it since we did not want to miss the tender back. It was easy peasy and fairly reasonable. Enjoy. Pearl64 Posted March 14, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 14, 2018 RCat60115, No, we are not on this summer’s cruise. We did this cruise last August. It was a wonderful cruise with a good mix of sea and port days. We did all of these ports independently with the exception of Bar Harbor and Bermuda where we had private guides. In Boston we went to the JFK Library getting there by Uber. In Halifax we hiked up to the Botanical Gardens which were spectacular. We spent several days in Halifax several years ago but had not been to the gardens. There are several Titanic venues including the cemetery which was very interesting but not walkable from the port. There is an immigration museum just a few feet from where the ship docks. Enjoy your cruise. It was one of our favorites.
RCat60115 Posted March 14, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted March 14, 2018 Thanks again Pearl for your insights! Would it be possible for you to share the guide names you used in Bar Harbor and Bermuda?
Pearl64 Posted March 16, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 16, 2018 RCat@60115, In Bar Harbor we used At Your Service Taxi. We needed to pay the park vehicle fee as NPS does not accept park passes. I had just read yesterday that the NPS was considering raising the fee from $25 to $70 on June 1, 2018. I am sure the guides will know. In Bermuda we used Winsome Tours. If you have trouble, post and I will try to help. Hope this works out.
