Hello, just wondering if it is possible to go to the beach and enjoy a day without booking a tour of some sort? Doesn't necessarily have to be an all inclusive day. Would like beach chairs as well. Any info., ideas and costs would be appreciated.

I've been to Progreso several times and you will be inundated by vendors on the free public beach. Once time my hubby and I walked down the beach to the east about a quarter of a mile and found a spot where we were all by ourselves. Of course, there were no beach chairs or food. I've never done a tour on that beach so can't answer that part of your question.

We were there a couple weeks ago and walked to Eladios. There were a few vendors but didn't seem as bad as they were before. The best part was all of the free food they brought us after we ordered a few drinks.
