Boracay Island, Philippines; closed

The President of the Philippines has closed Boracay Island to ALL tourism beginning April 26, stating it has become a 'cesspool.'

 

so...if Boracay is on your itinerary, begin watching for a new port or a sea day to appear!

 

it is gorgeous there and am so sorry for the people who work in the tourism industry. Supposedly only closed for 6 months but wonder how the problems stated will be fixed in 6 months.

I have a co-worker who was just there on a land trip, it looked beautiful in her pictures. I'll have to ask her about the "Cesspool"

We were there ATW16 and it was gorgeous.

 

We went to White Beach and I think it was in the Top 5 most beautiful beaches in the world.

I just talked to her, she said they were staying at the front part of the island which was beautiful it's the back part of the island with the problems. Interesting that they'd close the entire island.
