We've been on two VO cruises and have the Mediterranean Odyssey booked for next May. Would love feedback on the Transatlantic Portugal to Miami offer (12/16/18). Weather could be rough , for sure. This would be instead of Aruba, beautiful place, beach, weather Thoughts?

The mid-Atlantic crossings and weather have been discussed here in a couple of place, so I would take the time to look for threads about the TA-crossings (including the north Atlantic crossings which really haven't been mentioned much) or rough weather. The best way to find them is the old-fashioned way, that is to say by scanning down the list of threads, going three or four pages deep at least.

We have this Transatlantic booked but we are starting on 12/4 in Rome. We have done 5 or 6 Transatlantic crossings on other lines (all small ships) with most of these cruises being in December/January. Seas have been everything from lake-like calm to pretty rough. Lucky for us we don’t mind the movement at all.

We really, really enjoy all the sea days.

Would you enjoy? No one can answer that but you.

Interesting question! You're talking about two very, very different vacations. The good thing is that you must know Aruba (what's not to love about gorgeous Aruba) and you know Viking cruises as well. Is the worry about rough weather the thing that's giving you pause? We've done several transatlantics--in fact we're booked on this one--and it takes the southernly route which is warmer and calmer. And the Captain will always steer the ship out of the path of rough weather whenever is humanly possible. No swimming though except on board on this TA so that's one thing that Aruba would offer you that this wouldn't. But on the other hand, Lisbon is a wonderful city, the Azores are knock-down gorgeous, Bermuda is lovely...you get the idea. The ports, though few, are excellent. You have some decisions to make! Maybe make a "pro" and "con" list between the TA and the Aruba vacation and let the facts duke it out? :p

Thanks, Deirdre, great info !! Yes, we love the low rise area of Aruba and go every December. Thing is, we go before Christmas to avoid massive crowds and high pricing. If we take the TA on Viking my petsitter can't care for our four spoiled fur babies and haven't had luck finding another. :( Thanks again :)
