Organized Chaos Posted June 22, 2018 Author #26 Share Posted June 22, 2018 I think you will find the fall and winter cruises to your liking. It's too hot for me during the summer. In the winter, if you live in a colder region, it's like a bit of heaven to feel the warmth of the sun. It bites when you go back home, but for that one week it really is a treat. Thanks so much for doing a review. You're doing a great job! I get hot and sweat easy, so Caribbean summers definitely aren't the most comfortable to me. That's why I don't spend as much time out on deck as I'd like. We live in the midwest and came home to a wicked heatwave last week. It was actually a little cooler on the cruise...but still hot. I'd definitely like to try the cooler months. Coming back to the cold probably wouldn't bother me. I like the cold better than the heat. Thanks. :)
Organized Chaos Posted June 22, 2018 Author #27 Share Posted June 22, 2018 Thank you for your service OrganizedChaos!!! I’m glad you participated in the Veteran’s Recognition event! That’s a bummer about the Epic Rock show but a good reason to go on cruise #3! And thanks for the reminder to put the camera down and be in the moment! No, thank you. We attended the Veterans gathering on Conquest and it just so happened to fall on the anniversary of D-Day that time. That was emotional for me because my grandpa was a WWII Vet and was in Normandy on D-Day. This time around, the Fun Times kept mentioning a small Veterans meet & greet a few times, basically afternoon tea. I thought they had changed the format, but it turned out that was in addition to the more official gathering. It's so nice that Carnival does that, and not just saying that for myself. I don't know how many pictures I took on our first one, but it was a lot. A lot of people nowadays take them with the primary goal of sharing them on social media, but we don't do that kind of thing. They're always just for our own keepsakes. I love going back through old pictures. This time I didn't take nearly as many. Mostly things that really caught my eye. I debated on taking my DSLR for months and went ahead and brought it. I like having it for the better quality and especially for the zoom lens, but next time I think I'll leave it at home. I didn't use it nearly as much this time. It was just another bag to carry. I think I can do just fine with my phone and GoPro. We're looking at a Dream class next. Unfortunately, Epic Rock doesn't play on any of them, but that's ok. We'd love to see the real thing again, but it won't be our deciding factor. E@syPe@zy Posted June 22, 2018 #28 Share Posted June 22, 2018 You really did a great job on your review!! Interesting information about the entertainment. Our last cruise was this past December and even though we aren't huge fans of the shows, I really wanted to check out Epic Rock since I had read some great reviews about it. The show that we saw was exactly like the show that you saw. They just had about 5 singers sit on stools on the stage and take turns doing the lead. I sat through the entire performance and enjoyed the music, but was left feeling like, "Is that all there is?" I can't remember if that was one of the days that we were in rough seas or not. So that may have been the case. I guess I'll give it another chance on my next cruise (nothing scheduled at this time). Thanks for your service to our country and glad you got up to speak. I really like the way Carnival recognizes our veterans and active military. It's tough getting out of our comfort zones, but feels good to do so. Thanks again for such a helpful review! Thank you very much for your compliments. Leaving my comfort zone had a big influence, in a positive way. Made it more memorable, that's for sure. Oh wow, now I'm wondering if altering their shows has become normal in certain situations. Now that you mention it, at dinner in the MDR that evening, we were seated by a window. I was using the handrail outside as a reference against the horizon and, even though we couldn't feel it ourselves, the ship was rolling pretty good. After doing the normal one for the early show, I wonder if they decided they were rolling too much for the late show. That could be it. Still disappointing, not gonna lie. I wish they could change it in such a way that they still put on a production, just in a different way.
Lhound92 Posted June 22, 2018 #30 Share Posted June 22, 2018 We definitely saw you during the Motown pre show! How cool! That was the only show we went to, I was surprised my BF even wanted to go but we did enjoy it Sent from my iPhone using Forums
NebraskaSatellite Posted June 22, 2018 #31 Share Posted June 22, 2018 Organized Chaos - thanks for the review. We are headed towards Galveston tomorrow for our first cruise (on the Breeze, departing Sunday). I appreciate the "new cruiser" reviews on here a lot. It was through reading these boards, perusing TripAdvisor, and so on, that I decided we'd book non-Carnival excursions and see a bit more than the "usual" on our port stops. Have a great cruise Nebraska! The Breeze is one of my favorite ships. You are going to have a blast! You'll be fine doing your own excursions....just make sure you check "ship time" as you leave and allow yourself ample time to return to the ship. That was the only show we went to, I was surprised my BF even wanted to go but we did enjoy it Oh crap! LMAO Well, there were three of us up there, so my secret identity is still sort of safe. I don't know what possessed me to volunteer. My hand went up like it had a mind of its own. I wasn't even drinking. It was a pretty good show. I just wished I liked the singers more. I watched a YouTube video of Getaway Island, the beach themed show, and thought it looked terrible. But in person it actually wasn't that bad. It's late, but tomorrow I'll post a few pictures of Epic Rock from a couple years ago to give you guys an idea of how elaborate it's supposed to be. So much more than 8 singers sitting on stools. LOL

My wife found an itinerary we'd like to try next, but it's on the Magic (same class as Breeze). But since I've heard so much about the Breeze, we might look into that instead. Cruising wasn't something we every considered and I never thought it would be for me, but we love it. Now we just need to win the lotto so we can do it more often. :) I'm glad we decided to get away from the port area, it made it so much more memorable. Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get back. You don't want to be featured in a YouTube "pier runner" video. ;p If you take a taxi somewhere, make note of how long it took you to get there so you know how long it'll be to get back. Hope you have a great time.
Organized Chaos Posted June 23, 2018 Author #35 Share Posted June 23, 2018 Here's some photos from the Epic Rock show aboard Conquest on our June 2016 cruise. This is what it's supposed to be. Of course, they might've changed it a bit since then, but the "stool show" we got this time is definitely not the real thing. I'll share some pictures from this cruise soon. Organized Chaos Posted June 24, 2018 Author #36 Share Posted June 24, 2018 Promised some pictures before this thread sinks into oblivion. We followed the Sensation out of the Port of Miami. Later guys! This is the southernmost point at Grand Turk and where we spent most of our day. If weather allows it, I've heard there's good snorkeling if you continue around the bend. It was too rough that day. This was morning #1 from a Serenity deck clamshell, jotting down a few notes for the review. The view kinda sucks when you're down so low and I don't like the glass walls. That's a trade-off, I suppose, for having Serenity on the front. I get hot easy, so I'd rather have air flow. Actually, I was photographing the clouds. I like taking pictures of clouds that catch my eye. But the photo definitely doesn't do it justice, so I'll turn it into a "view from a clamshell" photo. The view of Castillo San Cristobal from the bottom of the hill. Only a short walk from the pier. And from atop the fort. The sun sets on our time at San Juan. Well, my yard work isn't going to do itself, so I'll post more later.
