PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted July 15, 2018 Author #176 Share Posted July 15, 2018 We went back to Nice and M&F ran into Hard Rock Café to get a t-shirt. It was mobbed making us feel better about our lunch choice in Florence at Hard Rock because obviously other people do it too… Saw a lot of weddings on this trip. In France, they drive like crazy and hang out and on the windows of the cars for wedding celebrations, honking the horns – just little boys!! Crazy!!!! Some of the windows in Nice were painted on the buildings (not real windows) because people used to be taxed per window… Oh and we heard a lot about how much they pay in taxes in France and how many rich Americans go there – spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on yachts, gas, helicopters, etc.

PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted July 15, 2018 Author #179 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Since we got done so quickly, Sue took us up the mountain. Beautiful!! There was some kind of fort there. Got some great shots of the ship from high up. We were very tired of having our picture taken by the end of the day, lol!

PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted July 15, 2018 Author #188 Share Posted July 15, 2018 After sailaway and sunset (beautiful!), we just went to the Windjammer for dinner because of the tiring day and we just didn’t feel up to the service and everything that went with it at the MDR. It was pretty good and a great option. We have only ever gone to the Windjammer once before for dinner in all of our cruises. It was a nice and relaxing meal on this port intensive cruise. All of us found something that we liked. They had a crepe station! The idea of it was better than the result, but it was, all in all, an excellent meal. PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted July 15, 2018 Author #189 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Since dinner was done so early, we went back to our room to sit and relax on the balcony. P went to gamble, and he broke even.
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted July 15, 2018 Author #190 Share Posted July 15, 2018 Saturday,10/28/17, Day 9, Day 4 cruise – Marseilles, France Marseilles today! The guide told us that this city was, before a few years ago, known as a dangerous city and not a tourist spot. We actually did not see too much in this city and went out to the rest of the towns quickly. We had a tour with Provence Tours from 8 to 4 (549 euros). Again, we couldn’t find our tour driver – even though there weren’t that many there. Finally, a man came in with our name on a sign and 2 other signs… He said our driver was cleaning her car and on her way. Her name was Noelle. Too funny, she was from Budapest, Hungary - we never got an actual French guide. We had a bit of a way to walk to get to the car as the drivers could not come up to the port and had to park in the lot. Our ship from the parking lot:
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted July 15, 2018 Author #191 Share Posted July 15, 2018 A little bit of Marseilles: We were headed up there.
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted July 15, 2018 Author #192 Share Posted July 15, 2018 We headed up to see a stunning basilica (Basilique Notre Dame de la Guarde) with gorgeous views and crazy parking lot and armed guards. It was very beautiful on many levels. Noelle took us there first because she said it was a mess in the afternoon, but the doors were closed in some areas for a mass. PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted July 15, 2018 Author #197 Share Posted July 15, 2018 As we were leaving, some clueless woman was taking pictures with her iPad right in the middle of the road. As crazy as that area was with vehicles, she was very lucky.
PhilNDebbieAtSea Posted July 15, 2018 Author #198 Share Posted July 15, 2018 We went on to Aix-en-Provence. Beautiful! Very French! There was an awesome shopping area with lots of high end shops. Noelle told us to meet at the statute as she was going to park. It was pretty easy to find… Right across from the fountain… Irish pubs are everywhere!
