The Big Booper Posted January 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2006 We are taking the Radiance on a 15 night relo out of Los Angeles in October 2006. Our favorite airline is Jet Blue, which flies into Long Beach Airport. Is that airport close to the cruiseship terminal in LA? Are there shuttles running between the airport and terminal? Or should we look at a closer airport? Thanks in advance
constantcruiser Posted January 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2006 Long Beach is probably the closest airport to the cruiseship pier -- and MUCH easier to manuever than LAX.

beachdude395 Posted January 6, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2006 LAX is a pretty far drive to the cruise terminal. Long beach is very very close.
The Big Booper Posted January 6, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted January 6, 2006 Does RCI have transfers from airport to terminal? We have booked as cruise only, but I guess we can add transfers, if available. Anybody have experience with this?
springtxbill Posted January 6, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 6, 2006 Get a cab. I believe it is only about 4 or 5 miles at the most.:)
driftychick Posted January 7, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 7, 2006 Long Beach airport is very close to San Pedro and the docks! You can take a cab with no problems or as posted by another do the RCI transfers. LAX is usually very crowded and is much farter from Long Beach. driftychick Posted January 7, 2006 #8 Share Posted January 7, 2006 By the way, we did this same cruise in 2004, you will love it and the Radiance and her crew. Great ports, try the Zip Line in Costa Rica!
critterchick Posted January 7, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 7, 2006 It's about 15 miles from the Long Beach airport to the San Pedro Pier, and about 20 miles from LAX to the pier. LGB is the better place to fly in & out of - there are only 45 or so flights a day, so there is virtually no congestion or hassle getting in & out of the terminal. You will still likely be on the San Diego Freeway for a portion of the ride, and it can be very congested, but it usually isn't as nasty as the traffic around LAX. The cabs have a fixed fare to the pier, I think it was $34 when we passed by the sign last time we came home. You can also take Prime Time Shuttle or SuperShuttle, but the cabs are very convenient, and with the fixed price, you won't really care what route the cabbie takes. The Big Booper Posted January 7, 2006 Author #10 Share Posted January 7, 2006 Thanks to all of you. We are East Coasters and not familiar with the West Coast at all. (Except for cruises):)
Happy ks Posted January 7, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 7, 2006 I'll second what critterchick stated. LAX is not a whole lot farther than Long Beach, but can take longer due to traffic. Long Beach is a wonderful airport compared to LAX, kind of like stepping back in time. I'd not take ship transfers, grab a cab or private shuttle.
