Pre cruise port

we are taking a Viking River Cruise from Basel to Amsterdam in November 2018. We would like to go early and do sightseeing in other countries. I heard somewhere that if you go early and don’t do their pre-cruise package that there will be an additional fee. Has anyone heard of this? Also, since booking our cruise I’ve had major hip surgery and have difficulties walking long distances. Is there any reason I couldn’t take my battery powered scooter (it is a small scooter that folds up)?

I suggest you contact Viking immediately about the scooter. In general, there is no provision for scooters on river cruise ships for a number of reasons.

As to airfare, if you book through Viking, there is a deviation fee if you don't fly in or leave on the "correct" day for the cruise or the pre- post- cruise.
