Fort Lauderdale - hotel - port....Help please

That is a good question, I kind of doubt it though. We used to do that at the springhill suites which has changed names and turned into a dump from what I have read. (no longer a Marriott property).

We just booked the Sleep Inn thanks to this thread for our family of 5, 2 doubles and a sleeper sofa December 15 for an inter-net aaa rate all taxes and fees at $161. Not cheap but we have secured a room as posted above.

This will be our third cruise out of FFL and we have made it a tradition to spend the pre cruise evening at Dave and Busters which is the same exit as the Sleep Inn. The kids like to play the video games, collect the tickets and bring a few new "friends" aboard. They redeem tickets for stuffed animals :)

The food is reasonable and mom and dad get to play a game of shuffle board.

Smooth sailing

This truly is great information. I have been reading many posts, trying to find a hotel referral which will be near the cruise docks, and in a safe area.

Seems many of you have done this before, so that is assuring.

This is our first time flying into Ft. Lauderdale from Seattle.

We will be doing the Panama Canal Cruise next April 19th.

We have not done airfare yet either. It seems from reading the info here, we probably should do the hotel soon, to assure a room, and that the air can be purchased safely later on. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for any advice, and information.

Thanks to Sea Fan's post on our PC thread, I booked a 2Q suite at SI in Dania, FL (FLL) at the rate of $113.44 including tax! Seniors over 60 get a whopping 30% off! WooHoo!

Vada:cool:

Hi: I forgot to ask in my previous post, but could you please post the telephone number which you used to make this booking? Thanks so much.

Sailaways-

We not only got a great price on this hotel (for over 60) but already booked our air for 4/28 Panama Canal cruise. One way from Ontario, CA to FLL was $202pp including taxes on US Airways. I thought that was a good deal too!

:) Vada

PS- Phone # for booking SI was 1-877-424-6423.

Wow, and thanks.

I will need to check out the air fare soon, if that is how the fares are going right now. That is a great deal. We will need 3 one way tickets - 2 over sixty, 1 not!

We will be on the Princess Sun for our 17 day Panama Canal cruise. We could possibly pass in the night somewhere!

Sailaways- We won't sail until 4/28 so we will be chasing you all the way! Ours ends in LA. Do you sail to Seattle? SF?

Vada

We return to Seattle all of the way on the ship. This, plus the itinerary were why we chose the Sun. I truly don't like to fly, so one way suits me fine. We will be driving from Montana to Seattle; spend the night with our son, then fly out to Ft. Lauderdale. He will be going with us, plus I am trying to convince two other couples to join us.

We will wave when if we see your ship!!;)

KIM~ I have really noticed the price changes with the events going on in FLL. I read somewhere that March has alot going on, that's probably why the high rate. If your not over 60 do you have AAA? Have you gone to Cruise Discussion Topics, and clicked on Hotels-Pre & Post cruise? Maybe you can get somemore info there.

Good Luck, Dianne

Sorry KAWS, I have never been disappointed with a Hampton Inn. They are very consistent with a nice enough room and clean property throughout the entire chain. They have a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee. I would choose Hampton over Holiday most every time.

You've got me confused - Our Panama Canal transit ends up in LA on 4/28/2007 - I thought that was the last cruise of the season because of the heat & humidity from May on. Evidently other ruise lines sail later!

Smaller and smaller all of the time.

We are so anxious about our cruise.

Tomorrow, I am going to finalize the air, and hotel reservations so that we can just enjoy the anticipation.

Airfares, right now, are very good.

We are looking at Sleep Inn, and Comfort Suites Airport & Cruise Hotels - any suggestions or thoughts.

We don't feel that we need luxury hotel accommodations for one night, and we plan to be out and about as much as possible prior to embarkation.

We will wave at you, when we see the Summit somewhere along the way - and you do the same.:)

We will be on the starboard side - enjoying the balcony as much as possible.

CA Bob-

Guess we'll have to sweat more than you will. ;) We don't leave FLL until the 28th. Arrive LA 5/14. Here's an idea - You all can pick us up at the Cruise Center and drive us home! How 'bout that?!!

:D Vada :D

I just booked Sleep Inns, just to make sure we had something set. Looked on the CC pre-cuise Hotel thread and a lot of people had good things to say. Got a great Senior Price of $120 (have to call for that one - it's the 65+ Senior price) Can cancel 24 hrs ahead if need be, with no penalty. I'm going to try to get airfare confirmed ASAP.

Here in the UK, it works out so much cheaper for us to book a return flight then, just toss the return segment in the garbage can !!!!!! Give it a try.:)

Thanks for all of the help.

We have booked with Holiday Inn Express on 17th Street, and got a much better rate than any quoted on the internet by going direct to the hotel, using the AARP Senior discount.

The rates were not as good when I checked, with little choice at Sleep Inn - Don't know what's up, but seems they are pretty well booked.

We did get a great one way air fare on United, using our AARP Senior rate.

Some of the hotels don't refund if you cancel, so this is something to always be aware of.

We are happy with the bookings which we have, and hopefully, all of you will be booked soon.

It was surprising to find that so many of the hotels are already booked - Nothing that I see on the calendar other than a full moon on the 17th. Yikes, we are leaving on the 18th of April!!

Thanks again.

I generally just lurk and learn. I am looking for a listing I saw a couple months ago that listed most hotels and their websites in Fort Lauderdale. Can anyone tell me where I can find it again? I think it also had their addresses and phone numbers.
