kcteach12 Posted September 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Can someone help guide me through the process of filing a claim? We had to cancel our cruise a week before leaving because of a medical diagnosis. It’s overwhelming.
Rare GeezerCouple Posted September 4, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Can someone help guide me through the process of filing a claim? We had to cancel our cruise a week before leaving because of a medical diagnosis. It’s overwhelming. Contact your insurer. They'll send you claim forms. Make CERTAIN that you have a signed/dated letter from you physician stating without equivocating that travel was not allowed, etc. It should say for medical reasons; I don't think the specific condition needs to be disclosed (but it probably wouldn't hurt). There will probably be a physician's form to be filled out. That may or may not require diagnosis. (We once just sent the entire ER report, in a foreign language! That was fine, no surprise.) Your "goal" is to make it as easy as possible for the insurer to understand a) the claim is valid, and b) precisely what your costs were, via receipts for *everything*. We had to cancel our cruise a week before leaving because of a medical diagnosis. It’s overwhelming. 1) Gather all r3ceilts and records you have 2) Notify the insurance company of the claim 3) If the you filed primary insurance, await the Explanation of Benefits(EOB) or get it online 4) Fill our the cancellation form 5) Mail and/or scan and email all of the material 6) Wait—from two weeks to six months for resolution Best of luck. Rare Hlitner Posted September 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2018 The first thing you MUST do is contact your insurance company (or companies) which should open up a claim file and get you a "Claim Number." Some policies actually have time limits after which you cannot even file a claim...which is why its important to get that claim file opened. Also keep a record of any contact you have with your insurance company in case there are later questions. For cancellation due to medical issues, you will need some cooperation from your physician who will be required to sign (and possibly provide further verification) a form or provide some type of letter. The insurance companies do not take the word of the claimant....but require documentation of everything. Hank
