sparky1949 Posted November 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 4, 2018 Is it necessary to wear full length gowns to formal nights and the Captains Gala or is cocktail length OK.
rkacruiser Posted November 4, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 4, 2018 On HAL Grand World Voyages, one will see both types of women's wear.
Rare Scrapnana Posted November 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2018 No problem with cocktail dresses for Gala Nights. In my opinion, more people dress up on a world cruise than on others so you will see a mix of formal dresses and cocktail dresses and for the men more tuxes and dinner jackets. Floridiana Posted February 22, 2019 #5 Share Posted February 22, 2019 I don't remember any woman wearing a formal long gown on our Grand Asia Voyage in 2018.

Which seating were you in? I don't have a very distinct memory of this, but I think that I remember an occasional long gown at the late seating on that cruise. I did bring a long gown but decided I had had too many cookies and biscotti to chance wearing it.
Floridiana Posted June 12, 2019 #7 Share Posted June 12, 2019 Tampa Girl, You are right, there was the occasional long gown, but not fancy ballgowns, just long at early seating. I also remember one or two tuxedos. We had a table of 8 nearby. One British couple was always very elegant and the lady next them had obviously forgotten how cold the dining room can be. It was not very cold, but for weeks she wore the same extremely casual hoody on top of whatever else she was wearing. Halfway through the trip she changed it out for a large scarf that she probably bought in one of the ports. Nobody batted an eye. Sparky, No need to buy or bring a ball gown.
