We have a return flight from New York at 4:52pm.  Any idea what to do with our luggage if we want to go enjoy New York for the day?

There are several luggage storage facilities in New York.  Just Google New York luggage storage and you’ll see them.

You might also look to see if NCL has a tour/transfer excursion post cruise. That will provide a luggage storage option as well as your transportation to the airport. I took advantage of such a tour in San Juan in 2017, what a pleasant way to end the cruise.
