DDG 41 Posted March 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2019 https://www.pocruises.com.au/media-releases/2017/2017-september-27 As seen in that media release it seems P&O thing the medallion is a very important thing. So does anybody have anymore information which they can share with all of us here on what the technology will be like with P&O?
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted March 6, 2019 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2019 Its the same technology that Princess are using. Golden Princess is going to P&O in 2020 and will be medallion-enabled by the time that happens. There has been quite a bit of info about the Ocean Medallion posted on the Princess forum. Rare MicCanberra Posted March 6, 2019 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2019 I am not sure it is any better than the Royal wrist bands. Seems a bit of a gimmick. They did come in handy for some things but more of a hassle for other things. I find the card is still best.
The_Big_M Posted March 6, 2019 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2019 It is better and has more features than the RCL version. One extra that it has that RCL doesn't is tracking, in that sensors detect where you are, and features e.g interactive displays make use of it as well. RCL's is only used for payments and door access. As just two examples of tracking, you can place orders for e.g. drinks (with the app) and the waiter will then bring the drinks to you wherever you are e.g. pool lounge. Another is you can find out where your companion/child is when set up so meet up with them more easily. Princess have integrated it so well that it replaces all other access forms, whereas with RCL the wrist band is still only an additional supplement and you still need the access card as well. Rare MicCanberra Posted March 6, 2019 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2019 That is an advantage, So when you say App, I take it you still need a phone as well, and would need to card for checking off and on the ship (port days)
The_Big_M Posted March 7, 2019 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2019 You don't need the app, but it does give you access to some features e.g. ordering from any location i.e. to do that you would need the app. The Medallion is also used for boarding/disembarkation, so you don't have an extra access card for that. With the Medallion they also engrave your name (and ship and sailing) on it, so the passenger is identifiable by looking at it as well for security/port purposes. (It also has a wristband option so can be worn similar to a wowband, or as a pendant/necklace, more like a lanyard, or of course put in a pocket/bag if preferred like a card).
