Schengen visa

Recommended Posts

I have a valid  Schengen visa for a cruise departing Southampton (England) to Bilbao (Spain).  The Schengen visa is valid from 16 May 2019, but the embarkation from Southampton is 15 May 2019.  Taken into account a sea day, the ship will arrive Bilbao on 17 May 2019.  Just wonder if the validity of the Schengen visa is a concern for check-in in Southampton.  Most grateful for advice and experience sharing.  Thank you.

I took cruise once from Southampton to Europe. As far as I can remember no one even checked passports on port arrival (it was Lisbon). But leaving from Schengen zone by air passport is checked and stamped.

The UK is not part of Schengen

Correct, but the OP is sailing from the UK with a Schengen visa which starts the day after their sailing but will be valid by the time they arrive in Bilbao.

Common sense says that'll be fine, but there's a very tiny risk that a jobs-worth at cruise check-in or immigration could be pedantic.

I don't see a problem, but no guarantees from me.

(I'm presuming that the lovebirds aren't both US citizens - US citizens currently don't need a visa for Schengen countries.)
