jlazz Posted April 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2019 I've read articles recently regarding the influx of Venezuelan refugees into the ABC islands. Does anyone know the impact this may be having on tourism? I've also read that the Venezuelan opposition is looking to set up in Curacao. I was thinking about booking on the Norwegian Dawn cruise for March 2020 and now I'm hesitant. Thoughts?
njhorseman Posted April 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2019 (edited) We were in Curacao twice this year and will be back a couple of times during the upcoming winter. I've heard nothing that would concern me, particularly as a cruise ship passenger that will be there for a relatively few hours. Rare crewsweeper Posted April 9, 2019 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2019 There was a short time when the boats from Venezuela weren't allowed to leave Venezuela and the market in Curacao closed down. But some are now coming back. A few were there in January this year, not a lot of goods. The political opposition in Venezuela is not staging demonstrations in the ABCs and not disrupting any tourist attractions.
bup1224 Posted April 10, 2019 #5 Share Posted April 10, 2019 I live here full time and what you may be talking about is the USA being allowed to use Curacao as a hub to store/transport humanitarian aid, which currently is the only thing that has been approved. The vendors at the Floating Market have been back for many months, but that could change. The current situation should not affect a 1 day visitor at all.
