Michigan123 Posted April 9, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 9, 2019 A friend and I are planning a cruise for next year. We plan on flying together and rooming together on the ship. What if we both purchased travel insurance and one of us could not go but the other chose to travel alone for the cruise. What would the lone traveler have to pay for the cruise? Since the price of the cruise is based on double occupancy, would the lone traveler have to pay the whole price of the cruise as if two people were rooming together? RedRover96 Posted April 9, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 9, 2019 (edited) There are so many to choose from, I suggest you call a couple and ask that question. Maybe someone has a specific answer, gut feeling, as long as the cruise insurance is bought together and list both of you on the same policy, should be OK. HOWEVER, don't assume!!! Also need to make sure you understand all the "can't go conditions", most require a letter from a doctor, etc to get the insurance refund. First, also be sure to check/browse through the Travel Insurance section of CC: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/499-cruisetravel-insurance/ But to be sure, also contact a travel insurance broker, who can explain the best policies for your specific needs (which may be different than traveling with family, etc.). No extra charge to you, by the way. We use www.TripInsuranceStore.com - and we'd used them to get policies from Travel Insured. And we've had several claims, all paid with NO nonsense, which matters! klfrodo Posted April 10, 2019 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2019 (edited) The person who decides to travel would probably have to pay the single supplement however, after they return, they could file for reimbursement for that single supplement based on the other person canceling for a covered reason. IOW the cruise line wants and gets their money. The insurance would pay out the covered costs. Edited April 10, 2019 by klfrodo
