JoBrum Posted April 18, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2019 I am going on an Emerald Waterways Cruise " The Jewels of the Rhine " the third week of August until the beginning of September. We will leave from Amsterdam and return to Basel, Switzerland and will be transported to Lucerne for 2 days. I was wondering if anyone has any information on what the weather will be like. Thank you, JoBrum
dogs4fun Posted April 18, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 18, 2019 Weather patterns are highly unpredictable. Layers are recommended. Recommend checking online for yearly averages for August/September.
doverboy Posted April 19, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 19, 2019 We did Danube in 2016 during same time frame and spent a week after the cruise on the road through Italy, Switzerland, and France. Had rain on the day we boarded, August 22, and rain the day we disembarked, August 29. Not a drop on any other day. We used Columbia 3 in 1 jackets (rain, vest, parka combo) and were very comfortable anywhere we traveled (zip in, zip out). Some excursions and roadstops were mountainous (cooler), river level could be cool at dusk. Cities were warm (no jacket)
Rare notamermaid Posted April 20, 2019 #4 Share Posted April 20, 2019 Afternoons will be warm with temperatures that will allow you to walk without a jacket, especially in towns. If you hit rainy weather it can be a little cool. Layers are a good idea as in the mornings you can get the first autumn chills. Also, evenings on the ship's sundeck will likely be uncomfortable when it is chilly. On hot days you can get thunderstorms with much rain. In Switzerland if you have booked a mountain tour make sure you have good shoes and a warmer jacket for that. Temperatures: anything from 6 degrees C on a very chilly morning in the hills to 30 degrees C on a hot day in town. Within those extremes expect mostly 12 to 24 degrees. notamermaid
