Drbonney Posted June 2, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2019 (edited) We are flying into Miami the day before our sailing. My wife has us booked into the La Quinta Airport. Is this a nice hotel? Has anyone stayed there? Edited June 2, 2019 by Drbonney Left out city
fishywood Posted June 2, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 2, 2019 Which La Quinta property are you at? Miami Airport North is at the extreme high traffic interchange of 36th St and the Palmetto Expressway. A block away from the county lock-up. But there are plenty of fast food and fast casual restaurants within walking distance. Miami Airport West is in the city of Doral, in the opposite direction of the port from MIA. Appears to be set back enough from NW 87th Ave to not hear the rumble of trucks all night. But not too many amenities in walking distance, though plenty a short ride away. Miami Airport East is in one of the least desirable locations in the MIA area. In the shadow of the onramps to the 112 expressway at the brutal intersection of 36 St and LeJeune Rd. No amenities at all nearby save for gas station convenience stores. The few restaurants that appear walkable on Google Maps or the like require crossing unsafe intersections. And they are pretty much cockroach central in the first place. If you are arriving on a late flight and just want to bolt the door and get some sleep either North or West is fine. Most LaQuinta properties down here are passable considering their lower prices--just not conveniently located.
JohninDC Posted June 2, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 2, 2019 La Quinta East is popular with cruisers for low (by Miami standards) prices and "free" shuttle to POM. As mentioed, it is isolated, so if you are arriving late and are okay with delivery pizza or Chinese it can be okay. Arriving eary, I would choose a hotel in the downtown area with lots of local dining and nightlife options within walking distance.
