You can ask them to open it, but now you have allowed your neighbors to come look in your windows whenever they want. If you're good with that, just ask the room steward. They will get it done for you. 

It’s just our 5 year old daughter and my mother in law. The door between the rooms will be open all the time anyways🤷🏻‍♀️

If you have connecting cabins, with a door between, if you open the balcony divider, it will block one of the doors to the balcony.  That means you will have access to the balcony though only one of the cabins.  Assuming you are not on a Spirit class ship (Miracle, Legend, Pride.).  EM

we joined the two balconies on a cruise about 2 years ago and it was the best , very long 

we always had the doors unlocked except for when we went on land and when they did there deck washing

If this is the case, the partition can be completely removed.  We've had this done on several of our cruises.
