Unfortunately you are not alone in this regard.  Our personal situation is taken care of but many more are in the same situation as you are.  I truly understand how frustrated you feel.  Our seat selections were important to us, too, since we paid to fly business class and wanted seats together.  You need the ticket info or at the very least your airline confirmation number to be able to get into the system to select your seats.
