My son has an ankle that can not handle uneven walking for long distances. We were considering going to Mero Beach but wanted to check and see if there are any better suggestions.

Not really.

Mero beach has a gentle slope, and excellent swimming, with the surrounding area very flat.  Wonderful  views out to sea.  Distance from taxi to beach is about 10 steps.

Plenty of bars and restaurants, which will appreciate your business, with generous pours of local rum.  There is also a small changing room free of charge.

On last visit the beds and shades were not the finest, but inexpensive and they do a job.  Your taxi driver who delivered you to Mero will be very happy for you to book them to take you back to the port.

Always happy to return.
