Safaga

I don't know about Safaga itself, but there's certainly excellent snorkelling at the resort town of Hurghada, about an hour north of Safaga. Google "Hurghada snorkelling"

Safaga is the port for trips to Luxor, Valley of the Kings, etc and that's where most of your ship-mates will be headed.

I'm guessing that ancient sights aren't your thing, but do think long & hard about that cos Luxor is iconic, and excellent even for uneducated plebs like me.

My other-half has been on Nile cruises - 7 days of dusty ancient sights and I couldn't hack that. But Luxor from Safaga gave me the very best of ancient Egypt in one very memorable day

Because Luxor is about 3 hours by coach ships are usually in port for a very long day,  so the hour each-way to Hurghada is no big deal.

If you change your mind & go to Luxor instead, it's one of the rare occasions I'd advise taking ship's tour because of the distance, roads, etc.
