East coast Canada

Given the dearth of criteria supplied, I can only recommend that yes, you should take one. But I can't tell you anything about which line, ship, itinerary would be best for you. Maybe if we knew your budget (both available time and money), possible date ranges, what sort of folks you're traveling with (Kids? Anyone with mobility issues?) you might get some more relevant advice...

In the meantime, there are two whole boards that are relevant to this area you could go read up on - see what trips others have taken, info about ports etc. to see what entices you.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EAST COAST CANADA CRUISE

No one can answer you without knowing your  vacation profile including preferences, expectations, experience and the means to pay for it.

Some folks will go ahead and suggest the ship is not as important as the itinerary. Others, including myself, will recommend that you first settle on which segment of the cruise industry (e.g., mass market, premium, luxury, expedition...) best suits YOU. After all, the ship will be your home away from home and food/service/amenities on ships vary significantly.

Once you've done your research (which should include talking to several respected cruise specialist TAs and perusing cruise line discussion threads here on CC to get a "feel" for a "best fit"), you can compare itineraries and the value/quality quotient associated with the "net daily rate" (based on cabin cost AND all associated required/optional expenses "door to door").
